The attack occurred in separate locations across Kaduna State, a region that has long been plagued by violent insurgency and sectarian tensions. According to local officials and residents, heavily armed assailants stormed the churches during morning services, opening fire on congregants and causing panic among worshippers gathered for one of Christianity’s most sacred days.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately before abducting an undisclosed number of female congregants. “People were running in all directions. Some fell, others were taken away,” said a local resident who asked not to be named for security reasons.
Emergency responders later confirmed that at least seven people had been killed, though the death toll could rise as more information becomes available. Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion has fallen on armed militant groups operating in the region, including factions linked to Boko Haram and other bandit groups known for targeting rural communities, churches, and schools.
Security forces have since been deployed to the affected areas, and a search-and-rescue operation is underway to locate and recover the abducted victims. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The attack has sparked outrage among community leaders and religious organizations, who are calling for increased security measures and stronger protection for vulnerable communities, particularly during religious gatherings.
Nigeria has faced years of violence stemming from insurgency, banditry, and intercommunal conflict, especially in its northern regions. Incidents like this underscore ongoing concerns about security and the safety of civilians attending places of worship.
As families mourn the victims, uncertainty remains over the fate of those abducted, with fears growing that they may be subjected to forced captivity or exploitation.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
