Two Arrested After Smallholding Attack in Free State; Property Damaged, No Items Stolen

Two suspects have been arrested following an incident on a smallholding near Bethlehem in the Free State, where property was damaged and a dog was shot, police confirmed.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), a 19-year-old and a 56-year-old were taken into custody on Tuesday evening. Authorities also confirmed that four firearms were seized during the arrests.

Incident Details

Police reports indicate that the 65-year-old farmer was working in his workshop on the afternoon of April 7 when he noticed a vehicle passing the property. Shortly afterwards, gunshots were heard, and the vehicle was seen leaving the area.

Upon inspecting the property, the farmer discovered that his dog had been shot and killed, the tyres of a tractor had been damaged, and a quantity of hay had been set alight. No items were reported stolen.

Investigation and Possible Motive

Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive for the incident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the damage and whether the act was intended as vandalism, intimidation, or linked to other criminal activity.
