Breaking News: Watch: Cyril Ramaphosa Caught in Fresh Scandal – Another Layer of ANC Deception Exposed?

In a dramatic twist that reeks of the murky cronyism plaguing Southern African politics, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is facing mounting pressure to come clean over allegations of a secret prior meeting with controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The latest bombshell comes from none other than Chivayo’s ex-wife, Sonja Madzikanda, who claims she was arrested after her former husband accused her of stealing his phone and leaking a “very compromising” video.

According to Madzikanda, the footage purportedly shows Chivayo meeting Ramaphosa well before their publicly acknowledged encounter at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe just a fortnight ago. Ramaphosa’s office had insisted this was their first meeting – a claim now looking increasingly threadbare.

The Video That Could Topple the Narrative

This isn’t just tabloid gossip. A screen grab circulating widely shows Ramaphosa in what appears to be an earlier, more intimate setting with Chivayo – the very businessman wanted in South Africa on money laundering allegations and known for his close ties to ZANU-PF elites. Chivayo, often described as a flamboyant tenderpreneur with deep pockets from state-linked deals, has never been shy about flaunting influence. Now, that bravado may have backfired spectacularly on Ramaphosa.

Why the secrecy? Ramaphosa’s handlers went out of their way to distance the president from Chivayo after photos from the Kwekwe farm visit surfaced. Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya claimed Ramaphosa “did not know” who Chivayo was and had no prior dealings. Yet here we are – with reports of a leaked video suggesting otherwise. If authentic, this directly contradicts the official line and raises serious questions about transparency at the highest levels of South African government.

Madzikanda’s arrest at Harare’s Highlands Police Station adds fuel to the fire. She alleges Chivayo weaponized the police amid a bitter custody and personal dispute, using the theft complaint as cover to suppress the damaging material. Whether the video fully emerges or not, the mere existence of these claims has ignited a firestorm across social media and opposition circles.

Ramaphosa’s Pattern of Convenience and Cover-Ups

This episode fits a troubling pattern for Ramaphosa and the ANC. From Phala Phala farmgate – where millions in undeclared foreign cash mysteriously appeared – to endless state capture scandals, the president has mastered the art of plausible deniability. Critics on the right have long argued that the ANC’s cadre deployment and tenderpreneur networks have hollowed out institutions, prioritizing connected insiders over ordinary South Africans struggling with unemployment, load-shedding, and crime.

Chivayo isn’t some random figure. He’s embedded in Zimbabwe’s patronage system, rubbing shoulders with Mnangagwa’s inner circle alongside figures like Kudakwashe Tagwirei. South Africa, under Ramaphosa, has often been accused of turning a blind eye to ZANU-PF excesses in exchange for regional solidarity – or perhaps something more transactional. Why was a man wanted by South African authorities sitting comfortably in a high-level delegation briefing the president?

The right-leaning view here is clear: This isn’t mere diplomacy. It’s the elite protection racket at work. While Ramaphosa lectures the nation on ethics and renewal, whispers of backroom deals with questionable characters continue to surface. The DA and other opposition voices have rightly called for greater scrutiny of executive conduct – demands that grow louder with every leaked photo or video.

Time for Answers, Not Spin

Cyril Ramaphosa must answer. South Africans deserve the truth: When did you first meet Wicknell Chivayo? What was discussed? And why the rush to deny knowledge if everything was above board?

In an era where trust in government is at rock bottom, another cover-up won’t suffice. The ANC’s grip on power has relied on controlling the narrative, but in the age of smartphones and viral leaks, that control is slipping. If this video surfaces fully, it could be yet another nail in the coffin of Ramaphosa’s carefully cultivated “Mr. Clean” image.

The people of South Africa – tired of corruption, economic decline, and elite impunity – are watching. Transparency now, or more of the same failed leadership. The ball is in the president’s court.
