Why the Left Hates Resilient Minorities Like Afrikaners and Israelis: A Psychological Autopsy of Ideological Envy and Selective Amnesia

Take a look at the math and the truth will reveal itself ( I have mentioned this in a previous article "The World is Spinning Out of Control – And South Africa is Right in the Middle"):

  • 500 million Europeans depend on 300 million Americans to protect them against 170 million Russians.

  • 2 billion Muslims live in fear of 7 million Jews in Israel — and openly call for their destruction.

  • Here in South Africa, 55 million Black South Africans fear 4.5 million Whites… and have passed 144 laws targeting them.

There is a STRIKING PATTERN UNFOLDING, let's cover it.

In the fevered worldview of the modern left, certain minority groups occupy a peculiar category: they are simultaneously too successful to deserve sympathy and too defiant to be forgiven. Afrikaners in South Africa and Israelis (the Jewish people who rebuilt their ancient homeland) are Exhibit A and Exhibit B. Both are small, culturally distinct communities that clawed their way back from near-annihilation only to be branded as perpetual oppressors. The left’s hatred is not mere policy disagreement — it is a deep psychological pathology rooted in envy, ressentiment, and a rigid oppressor-oppressed binary that collapses when confronted with groups that refuse to remain victims.

Let us begin with the history the left conveniently erases. Afrikaners, descendants of Dutch, French Huguenot, and German settlers, faced existential destruction during the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902). After the Boers resorted to guerrilla warfare, British forces under Lord Kitchener implemented a scorched-earth policy: farms burned, livestock slaughtered, and civilians herded into concentration camps — the first systematic use of such camps in modern warfare. More than 118,000 white Boers were interned; official records show 28,000 died, the vast majority women and children, from disease, starvation, and neglect. That figure represented roughly 10–15% of the entire Afrikaner population at the time — a demographic catastrophe that some historians have described as genocidal in intent, even if not in bureaucratic nomenclature. Black Africans suffered similarly in separate camps, with another 20,000 deaths. The British Empire’s goal was explicit: break the Boer nation’s will by targeting its future.

Fast-forward half a century and the Jewish people endured an even more industrialized apocalypse. In 1933, Europe was home to 9.5 million Jews. By 1945, the Nazis had murdered six million — two out of every three European Jews — in a deliberate, mechanized genocide. Entire communities vanished. The Holocaust was not collateral damage of war; it was the explicit Final Solution, complete with ghettos, death marches, and extermination camps. The left loves to invoke “never again” when it suits narratives of Western guilt, yet somehow forgets this history the moment Israel — the Jewish state born from the ashes — dares to defend itself.

These are not ancient myths. These are documented, near-total attempts to erase two peoples from the earth within living memory. Both groups responded the same way: with ferocious resilience, cultural cohesion, innovation, and a refusal to beg for perpetual victim status. Afrikaners rebuilt after the war, developed agriculture and industry, and created one of Africa’s most advanced economies. Israelis turned a malaria-ridden desert into a high-tech powerhouse while absorbing waves of Mizrahi, Sephardi, and Ethiopian Jews fleeing Arab persecution. Both achieved this without the perpetual grievance industry the left demands.

Here is where the psychological analysis becomes damning. Modern leftism is not driven by compassion but by what Nietzsche called ressentiment — the seething envy of the weak toward the strong. Successful minorities expose the lie at the heart of the leftist worldview: that outcomes are determined solely by systemic oppression rather than by culture, intelligence, work ethic, and group strategy. Afrikaners and Israelis are living disproofs. They succeeded despite genuine historical oppression. They built strong families, high-trust communities, merit-based systems, and military prowess. In short, they embody the very virtues the left has spent decades pathologizing as “whiteness,” “colonialism,” or “settler privilege.”

Psychologists who study envious prejudice (see Peter Glick’s work on “envious antisemitism”) note that hatred intensifies precisely when the target group refuses to play the victim role. Jews and Afrikaners are not “oppressed enough” anymore — they are prosperous, innovative, and unapologetically ethnocentric when necessary. This triggers cognitive dissonance in the leftist mind. The oppressor-oppressed binary requires clear villains and saints. When the “villains” turn out to be the ones who survived actual genocide and then thrived, the narrative must be inverted: they become the eternal oppressors, and any criticism of them is reframed as punching up. Hence the bizarre spectacle of campus activists chanting for “decolonization” while ignoring that Israel is the indigenous homeland of the Jews and that Afrikaners have been in South Africa longer than most American settlers have been in the United States.

This envy is compounded by another leftist psychological tic: moral grandstanding through selective empathy. The left adores underdogs — but only those who remain underdogs forever. A minority that achieves self-determination, builds a nuclear deterrent (Israel), or maintains cultural enclaves (Orania) threatens the entire victimhood economy. Afrikaners who defend mother-tongue education or private property are “racists.” Israelis who refuse another Holocaust are “genocidal.” The same activists who wept over apartheid in the 1980s now cheer farm murders in South Africa and October 7-style atrocities in Israel, because acknowledging minority resilience would require admitting that culture and agency matter more than skin color or historical grievance.

The hatred is also strategic. Leftist ideology requires perpetual revolution. Groups like Afrikaners and Israelis represent the ultimate counter-revolutionary success stories: small peoples who preserved identity against empires, Nazis, and now against globalist multiculturalism. By demonizing them, the left keeps its coalition of the resentful intact. It also projects its own authoritarian tendencies — the desire to control speech, rewrite history, and enforce racial quotas — onto these groups. The ANC’s 142 race-based laws, the EFF and MK’s assaults on Section 235 self-determination rights, and the campus calls for “from the river to the sea” are not aberrations; they are the logical endpoint of a psychology that cannot tolerate any minority that refuses to dissolve into the rainbow utopia.

Ultimately, the left’s loathing of Afrikaners and Israelis reveals far more about the left than about its targets. It is the hatred of the parasite for the host, of the envious for the accomplished, of the ideologue for empirical reality. Two peoples who stared extinction in the face and chose life, excellence, and sovereignty are living rebukes to a worldview built on cultivated weakness. That is why the hatred never ends — and why, in the final analysis, it is the left that stands exposed as the true enemy of the resilient. Minorities who refuse to stay broken will always be hated by those who profit from brokenness.
